House of rubbish kicks off festival

Friday 22nd August 2008, 11:50AM BST.

A house made entirely from Ludlow rubbish was going up in the market square today to help launch the fifth annual Green Festival.

The Throwaway House, which has been designed and constructed by Colin Richards of South Shropshire District Council, is just one of the ‘green’ highlights.

Events started yesterday, with a composting and children’s workshop and a talk on European towns which have rejuvenated themselves.

This evening at 5.30pm children’s nature activities were being held in St Laurence’s Churchyard and a talk by Nick Tilt about his farming experiences will be at 7.30pm, in the Bishop Mascall Centre.

Other events include the green fair on Sunday from 10am-4pm in the market square, a drop-in workshop on ‘how to green your home’ and a family cycle ride of 14 miles on Monday.
