Midfielder Karl Henry looks set to be handed the captain’s armband tomorrow for Wolves’ lengthy trip to Ipswich Town.Henry, who was given the privilege of skippering his home town club last season in the absence of Gary Breen, will fill in for the injured Jody Craddock, who is out for three months after breaking his foot against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.

“There’s no reason why Karl won’t be captain,” said manager Mick McCarthy.

“I’ve watched the Sheffield Wednesday game again and he was absolutely brilliant. Chris Iwelumo got the man of the match award but Karl covered more ground than anyone.

“He gets things together and tidies things up. He does all those dirty little jobs that people don’t particularly notice.”

Hopes are high at Wolves after a bright start to the season that has seen a decent draw at Plymouth follwed by last Saturday’s 4-1 mauling of Wednesday, but Ipswich are also expected to be competing at the top end of the Championship this season.

Jim Magilton’s side were beaten just once at Portman Road last season but look unlikely to match that fine record this term having already suffered defeat on home soil against Preston.

New striker Chris Iwelumo appears to have secured his place in the starting line-up after netting four goals in his first three games for the club as McCarthy promises to maintain Wolves’ attacking philosophy.

“It’s very different away from home but it should have the advantage of making it a big, open game,” he said.

“We played that way for 90 per cent of the games last season away from home.

“In the main, we play 4-4-2 and had a decent away record last season.

“So the answer is yes we can play as good and as devastating away from home.”
