Thursday 21st August 2008, 11:50AM BST.

A body has been found at a beauty spot near Oswestry, shortly after a woman disappeared from her home.An RAF helicopter was brought in to retrieve the body of a woman after it was found on a cliff at Llanymynech yesterday.

It followed a search by police from two forces and mountain rescue teams.

West Mercia Police say the alarm was raised just before 10am following concern about the welfare of a woman who had left her home in Oswestry, sparking the search of the Llanymynech area.

Officers from West Mercia and Dyfed Powys police forces, along with a specialist Mountain Rescue team, were drafted in as the area is on the Shropshire/Welsh border.

Police said the body of a woman was found just before midday yesterday on a cliff at the Llanymynech Golf Course. She was confirmed dead at the scene by paramedics.

Although the identity of the woman has not been confirmed, police said the search was called off and the family informed of the discovery.

The deputy coroner for Dyfed Powys, Dr Huw Medlicott, has been informed and a post-mortem examination and inquest will take place.

Police say that they are treating the death as unexplained but said: “At this stage we are not looking for anyone else.”
