Police in warning to motorists

Thursday 21st August 2008, 6:59PM BST.

Motorists in Powys could face having their cars seized and crushed if they are caught driving illegally, police warned.

Dyfed-Powys Police said anyone caught driving without a licence or insurance faces having their vehicles taken off them.

The force said so far this month 120 vehicles had been seized.

Chief Inspector Steve Matchett said: “If you drive your vehicle on a road you have a responsibility to ensure everything about the vehicle and yourself is legal.

“Throughout the force we have automatic number plate readers which enable police officers to check on the legality of vehicles within seconds.

“Should you not have the correct documents, you risk having your vehicle seized and potentially crushed.”

He added: “You will also be prosecuted for the offences you have committed and could then end up with a substantial fine and points.”
