Location for youth pod to be decided

Thursday 21st August 2008, 1:59AM BST.

An £11,000 “youth pod” boasting bluetooth technology and solar lights could be put up in Shawbury in the coming weeks.

Youngsters in the village met councillors and police to discuss the design of the shelter and where to locate it.

Simon Jones, Shawbury parish and district councillor, said he hoped the pod would be put up within the next three months.

“The meeting went very well. We had about 15 to 20 young people there,” he said.

“They decided on which one they would prefer so I’ve been getting prices. They’ve got a preferred location so we are looking at that.

“It’s going to cost all the grant that we have got but that’s what the grant was for.

“It’s got what they call a sonic pack, bluetooth, FM radio and solar lights – it’s all solar powered.”

Councillor Jones said a final location for the pod had yet to be finalised but an ideal place would be at the side of the football pitch.

He said the existing youth shelter in the village would be taken down and the site probably grassed over.

Members of Shawbury Parish Council accepted the £11,700 grant from North Shropshire District Council to develop the pod, where youngsters can congregate, at a meeting in April.

Fantastic, nice to see the councillors working together with the younger members of the community, should be an example to other councils in the region.

They will smash it to pieces in no time and waste another £11,000 of decent taxpayers money. Presumably it will now be moved away from the village hall, which had to be fitted with a 12 feet high security fence because they repeatedly smashed that too.
