Daniels targets a longer Town stay

On-loan shot stopper Luke Daniels is hoping a promising start to his Football League career will secure a longer stay at Shrewsbury Town.Goalkeeper Daniels’ initial 28-day temporary move from West Bromwich Albion comes to a conclusion at the end of this month.
But the 20-year-old is keen to prolong his time at the Prostar Stadium after making his bow in senior football in England.
Two clean sheets in his first three games – Carling Cup conquerors Carlisle are the only side to have scored past Town this season – will have done Daniels’ cause little harm.
And he is now waiting to see if his time at Town will be extended.
“I’ve really enjoyed it here and I’d like to stay longer if that becomes a possibility,” said the Manchester-born custodian, who still harbours hopes of having a long-term future at Albion.
“We will just have to see what happens but it’s great to be playing games in the Football League.
“I’m at the stage of my career where I need to be playing regularly and this was the right option for me at the right time.
“With the start we have made, it looks like I’ve made the right decision.”
Daniels insists there is more to come from his own personal performance – but is happy with the understanding he is striking up with his defensive colleagues.
“It’s gone okay but there are things that I can improve on,” he added.
“That will come with games and the more I play, the better it will get.
“The friendly I had with Stoke was hard because I’d only had one training session and knowing people’s names was a problem.
“But since then it’s been fine. It’s great to play behind a back four with a lot of experience in it because you know what ever is thrown at you, the defence are capable of dealing with it.
“Hopefully they have got the same kind of belief in me.”
