Lawley Hill’s yes to Lawley Hill proposal
Monday 18th August 2008, 11:49AM BST.
When Jennifer Mackie decided to pop the question, she found the perfect place for a proposal – a Shropshire hill sporting the same name as her boyfriend.
Jennifer was delighted to discover the existence of Lawley Hill, near Church Stretton, knowing that it would add an extra special touch to her leap-year marriage proposal to childhood sweetheart, Lawley Hill.
And to make it extra special, Jennifer arranged to propose on horseback with the help of Mill Farm Riding Centre.
“I wanted to make this day so special and I was amazed when I found Lawley Hill,” says Jennifer.
“On the day of my proposal we are staying at Lawley House in Church Stretton – even our room is called Lawley – and my boyfriend’s carpentry business is called On Top of the Hill Interiors, so there are so many coincidences.
“I’ve had handmade willow engagement rings made, engraved with the date of our wedding which will be in August 2010, and I arranged to have some champagne on hand when I proposed to him on Lawley Hill, on horseback.”
The couple, who are now planning their wedding after Lawley accepted the proposal on Thursday, are both 23. They met at school and have been together since the age of 15. They live in Milton Keynes.
Jennifer, an outreach and education worker, added: “I wanted this day to be special and it was – Lawley was totally amazed but luckily he said yes! Shropshire has proved the most wonderful venue for a wonderful day. Being able to propose on horseback thanks to Mill Farm made it extra special.
“We have enjoyed archery and mountain boarding as well as horse riding.”
Lawley said: “I must admit I was totally surprised by the whole thing – but it has been a truly memorable experience and being proposed to by the woman I love in this totally romantic setting is something we will always remember.”
