Game in memory of crash victims
Friday 15th August 2008, 11:50AM BST.
A memorial match was due to take place today in memory of two cricket-loving teenagers killed in a horrific road smash in Shropshire.
Family and friends were set to hold the special event to remember Naim Anwar, 19, and Zeeshan Ahmed, 15, at 4pm on the playing fields at Craven Arms.
A cricket team from the Craven Arms Cricket Project will play a team of local police, South Shropshire Youth Forum members, friends and parents.
The teenagers, both from Craven Arms, had been involved with the Craven Arms Cricket Project since it started five years ago.
Mr Ahmed was a Shropshire county youth player and played cricket for Ludlow’s second team.
The pair died after a three-vehicle collision on the A49 near Wistanstow.
A third young man from Craven Arms, who was a passenger in the car, was seriously injured in the collision at about 9.45pm on August 4.
The teenagers were travelling southbound on the A49 when their car was involved in the collision with a red Jeep Cherokee and a white Vauxhall Vivaro van.
Inquests were opened and adjourned following the smash. Mr Anwar’s funeral took place on August 7.
