Fog device callout for firefighters

Friday 15th August 2008, 11:50AM BST.

Firefighters called to a smoke-logged service station on the Oswestry bypass today discovered that it was not a blaze – but a special anti-burglar fogging device.

Crews were alerted when police officers driving past the Shell garage on the A5 just after midnight noticed smoke coming from the roof.

Fears that it could be a serious incident meant two fire crews and an incident commander were sent to the garage.

But they could find no sign of a fire.

The vapour was a “smoke-cloak” to deter burglars.

Station manager John Davies said: “We thought that the smoke was probably a security device but we were there an hour checking out the premises to make absolutely sure.”
