‘Do an Albion,’ says Wolves boss
Friday 15th August 2008, 11:50AM BST.
Mick McCarthy wants Wolves to ‘do an Albion’ and keep scoring goals – but has stressed the need to repeat last season’s clean sheets record.
Wolves go into tomorrow’s first Championship home game against Sheffield Wednesday having conceded four goals – but scored five in the first two games.
The Molineux boss wants his side to continue to filling their boots, but to tighten up at the back.
“We needed to improve on putting the ball in the net,” said McCarthy.
“West Brom scored a load of goals and conceded a lot more than us but still won the Championship.
“Scoring goals is paramount to winning games but we did take a lot of pride in our clean sheets record.
“So far this season, we’ve created plenty of chances and scored five goals.
“Clean sheets is always a requirement. If you don’t concede a goal you never get beat.
“We kept 19 clean sheets last season which was the third best, but we had the third or fourth goals scored.”
McCarthy, who has David Jones and Michael Kightly fit again after knocks, also revealed Mark Davies’s performance against Accrington Stanley in midweek had persuaded him to change his mind about sending the youngster out on loan.
