Show’s tickets on web blossom

Wednesday 13th August 2008, 11:50AM BST.

Internet ticket sales for the 2008 Shrewsbury Flower Show have more than doubled over last year’s figure.

Show organisers today said they were optimistic as the final touches were being put to The Quarry showground for the event this Friday and Saturday.

The optimism arose from entry figures up on last year and encouraging pre-show ticket sales.

Web sales topped 50,000 yesterday – more than double the figure of this time last year. Pre-show sales of programmes are three times those of last year.

Peter Road-Night, show secretary, said: “Everyone involved with the show is confident that we are heading for a highly successful show.”

Harry Wilson, chairman of show organisers the Shropshire Horticultural Society, said: “It is clear that . . . many people have decided to seek their enjoyment closer to home this year – and Shrewsbury Flower Show is one of their targets.”
