Property hotspots in region named

The border of south Shropshire and Mid Wales was today revealed as the county’s latest property hotspot, which detached homes selling for an average of £473,680.Land Registry figures also put the TF13 6 postcode zone, just south west of Much Wenlock, as coming a close second with the average detached house changing hands for around £467,750 between April and June.
The statistics reveal that the most expensive homes in the SY and TF postcode areas are across the Cheshire border, near Malpas, where they are selling for an average of £545,333 in the SY14 7 area.
Also in the top five for the SY postcode areas were the Clee Hill region, with detached homes selling for £439,000 before the average figure drops by more than £50,000 to £386,785 for the SY7 8 zone near Clun.
Telford & Wrekin’s leading area was TF6 6 near Waters Upton where detached homes are selling for around £428,400, followed by TF11 8 in Sheriffhales where prices average £383,750.
Estate agent DB Roberts said there was good news for the Wellington area which showed property sale completion had held up far better than anywhere else in Telford compared with the same quarter of 2007.
Chairman Bill Brookes, said: “As we expected, numbers of completed sales are down by an average of 40 per cent year on year – a figure reflected across the region.
“However, the TF1 postcode, which covers Wellington and Ketley areas, has shown a slowdown of only 20 per cent, from 142 completed sales in 2007 to 114 in 2008.”
The figures also reflected the downturn in sales, with 561 homes sold in the TF region, compared to 763 for the first quarter of the year and 745 homes sold across the SY postcode zones, compared to 958 last year.
The cheapest homes across the county were flats and maisonettes in the Bicton Heath area of Shrewsbury, selling for an average of £54,000. In Telford, the lowest prices were found in the Randlay area, with flats changing hands for around £82,000.
MOST AND LEAST EXPENSIVE:
- The most expensive houses in the SY and TF postcode areas are in SY 14 in Cheshire at around £545,000.
- A semi-detached house in Telford & Wrekin sells for an average of £143,442.
- Telford’s boom site for properties was Muxton where 40 properties changed hands.
- The average cost of a semi-detached home in the SY area is £167,176.
- The top property sales region for the SY area was Whitchurch, where 39 homes were sold.
- The least expensive place to buy a detached property across the TF and SY areas was Machynlleth at £120,000.

As a long time resident of South Shropshire it would be appreciated if the ‘powers that be’ recognised that DY14 postcodes are also in Shropshire. It would be nice for the residents of Cleobury Mortimer and surrounding areas to know where they fall in the statistics.
