Poet McMillan talks his way home

Yorkshire dalesYorkshire poet, comedian and broadcaster Ian McMillan is bringing his life story in poems to Oakengates Theatre @ The Place on October 1. 

Talking Myself Home tells the life story of John and Olive’s son, the Bard of Barnsley! From Low Valley Junior School and Wath Grammar School, to Oscar the Frog – Barnsley’s first folk-rock band, and Jaws – Barnsley’s first folk-poetry duo, and beyond.

Ian McMillan hosts weekly words show The Verb on BBC Radio 3. He is Yorkshire Planetarium’s Poet in Space, Poet-in-Residence at Barnsley FC and The Academy of Urbanism, Humberside Police’s Beat Poet and Yorkshire TV’s Investigative Poet.

He’s been a regular on Newsnight Review, The Mark Radcliffe Show, The Today Programme, You & Yours, Any Questions, Quote Unquote and Have I Got News For You?

He was recently celebrated by The South Bank Show and has been described by The Observer as ‘a breath of fresh air’’.
