Damaged pinnacle is replaced
Monday 11th August 2008, 6:59PM BST.
An ornamental spike which was damaged by strong winds earlier this year has been replaced, in an operation which left an 850-space multi-storey car park in Shrewsbury closed for a morning.
The Raven Meadows Car Park and part of Raven Meadows road were closed yesterday morning while the work took place to remove the ornamental pinnacle on the roof of the Darwin Shopping Centre.
It was left hanging from its position on the roof after it was battered by strong winds in March.
A crane was brought in yesterday to remove the pinnacle and replace it. The work began at 5am but was completed by midday.
Nicholas Pitt, Darwin, Pride Hill and Riverside Centre manager, today said: “It went well. There’s a new pinnacle up and it’s a similar structure.”
