Robbers threaten walkers with gun
Saturday 9th August 2008, 3:00PM BST.
Two men armed with a handgun attacked a group of friends in a Telford churchyard late last night, escaping with hundreds of pounds.
One of the robbers was wearing a balaclava and brandishing a large piece of timber, while the other unmasked robber threatened the group with what they believe was a handgun, in the incident in All Saints churchyard, Wellington, yesterday, at about 11pm.
The four friends had walked through the town centre and were making their way through the churchyard when they were set upon by the robbers.
A 20-year-old man was forced to hand over his wallet, containing several hundred pounds, as he was threatened with the weapons.
His friend, also 20, had his mobile phone taken, while a 19-year-old woman escaped unhurt and did not hand anything over.
A 20-year-old woman suffered cuts to her arm after being attacked by the man with the piece of wood.
A Telford police spokesman, said: “This was a serious attack.”
The offender holding the piece of wood was described as in his early 20s, about 6ft tall, skinny and wearing a balaclava and a dark blue, striped hooded top with white trimming.
The second robber was 5ft 8in, of stocky build, with light gelled hair and was holding something which looked like a handgun.
Anyone with information is urged to call Telford police on 08457 444888.
