Residents over the moon as shut pub sold

Friday 8th August 2008, 11:50AM BST.

A long-shut pub in Ironbridge is set for a new lease of life after being sold for about £400,000.

The Half Moon Inn, on the banks of the River Severn in Jackfield, is set for a refurbishment before reopening as a pub-restaurant after being sold to Julia Childs, who owns The Shakespeare Inn in Coalport.

“It’s a shell at the moment, but we hope to reopen it in about a year,” she said.

Birmingham-based property agents Christie & Co, which handled the sale, said there had been a lot of interest in the detached pub, which sits on a 1.4-acre site and has about 270ft of riverside frontage.

It has an open plan former trading area, kitchen and ancillary areas, a beer garden and a car park. Simon Cable, of Christie & Co, said: “Despite having been closed for more than 10 years and requiring extensive refurbishment, the sale of the Half Moon Inn generated numerous offers in a short period of marketing.”

Tommy Yates, treasurer of Jackfield Residents’ Association, said: “We are looking forward to it.”

Mal Stringer, owner of Severn Trow B&B in Jackfield, said: “I think the more the merrier. It will draw more people to Jackfield.”
