Poultry farm is hit by fire

Wednesday 6th August 2008, 11:50AM BST.

A poultry farm building in Powys housing 19,000 chickens was hit by fire overnight.

Firefighters battled into the early hours today tackling the flames in a 350ft-long building at Cottage Farm, Evenjobb, near Presteigne.

A spokesman for Mid Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the alarm was raised at 10.20pm and firefighters used water jets to deal with the blaze.

“Remarkably, no birds were injured or killed in the fire and this is credit to the team,” he said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
