Expert warns of wet weather

dark-clouds.jpgHolidaymakers in the UK are advised to pack their waterproofs after former Shropshire weather expert predicted August was set to be a washout.

Piers Corbyn, of long-range climate forecasters Weather Action, said the next few weeks would be wet, with floods hitting the west of Britain potentially affecting parts of Mid Wales and Shropshire.

Mr Corbyn, who grew up in Newport and a former Adams’ Grammar School student, predicted the weather six months in advance by analysing solar activity.

In a statement for Weather Action he said flooding was likely at times, bringing river overflows.

The first half of the month will be dominated by alternating wet or very wet spells on deep lows from the west and north west of Britain and heading into south Scandinavia – with fronts crossing most parts.

Drier, finer periods are predicted especially in southern parts of Ireland, the south west and southern Britain. However, significant deluges and floods are likely in parts of the country around August 9 to 11.

Two inches or more of rain are likely in some parts of the North, North East and the Midlands.

The weather expert said many vulnerable places could expect floods.

Mr Corbyn said some very warm humid spells will precede major thunderstorms and floods in parts – notably across August 23 to 26, in time for the August Bank Holiday.

I have analysed the bottom of a large number of beer glasses and am confident in making my own forecast for August:

Dry sunny periods will be interspersed with scattered showers, some heavy and prolonged. Temperatures generally will be normal for this time of year, and winds will be noticeable on some days, particularly on high ground.

When my forecast is found to have been totally accurate on 1st September, I presume the BBC will be contacting me to ‘sign me up’ to give future meaningless forecasts, my fee to be arranged!!
