Motorcyclists protest over the barriersMembers of a Telford motorcycle club who protested over a controversial new barrier today welcomed moves for “Bike Safe” warning signs at the site.Bugsplatz Motorcycle Club protested after claiming the black barrier on the approach to Old Park roundabout obscured the view of drivers.

But the council, which has agreed to put up the warning signs, said similar barriers in other parts of the country had cut the number of crashes.

After more than 100 bikers took to the road to highlight their concerns, members discussed their fears with officials.

Bugsplatz chairman Paul Myler said: “The traffic scheme which the barrier is a part of runs until November so what we have agreed with the council is that they will do a risk assessment on the number of accidents which have happened after that.

“There won’t be any more protests provided they don’t put any more barriers up.”

Steve Bentley, the council’s cabinet member for the environment, said, “I am pleased we have been able to agree a way forward and, most importantly, that we can continue to talk to motorcycle users.”
