A 68th-minute Richard Creswell goal was all that separated Shrewsbury Town from Premier League new boys Stoke City at the Prostar Stadium.
Luke Daniels had to pull off a series of saves on his Shrewsbury debut as Tony Pullis’s side threatened to dominate.
Shrews’ best chance came when Stoke keeper Steve Simonsen denied Dave Hibbert from a header.
