Muggers stab man in hand

Monday 4th August 2008, 11:50AM BST.

Muggers stabbed a 57-year-old man in the hand for £25 as he walked home from a Telford chip shop, police said today.

The victim was left needing hospital treatment after a scuffle with the men who attacked him in Burford, Brookside, just after 8pm on Saturday.

Police say two unknown men approached the victim and struck up a conversation before demanding money from him. The victim was stabbed in the hand in a struggle.

The victim had about £25 stolen from him before his attackers fled.

Police said a 26-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident and had now been charged with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon. He was due to appear in court today.

Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, said: “Although one man has been charged in connection with this robbery, it goes without saying we are also keen to trace the man who engaged the victim in conversation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Telford police on 08457 444888.
