Brileighs, in Market Street, Oakengates, was shut down five months ago after police uncovered a catalogue of problems with underage drinking, anti-social behaviour and street brawls.

But it now set to be relaunched in September month after a £150,000 revamp, with a new name and under new management.

Managers say it is a “new era” for the club, which will be aimed at a more mature crowd.

Businessman Leigh Gregson, who was awarded a new licence for the premises, said the refurbishment was now under way. He said: “We are looking at mid-September for the reopening.”

The club is being completely revamped with a new decor, toilets, sound system, sound proofing and a new bar.

Mr Gregson, who also runs a taxi firm in Oakengates, said: “There’s a lot of investment going in to it.

“We are probably looking at creating at least 15 jobs including bar staff, security, DJs, cloakroom staff and management.”

“We will have a strict door policy with experienced door staff and a good management team. We want the club to get itself a really good reputation.”

Mr Gregson is a former owner of the club, having first opened it in 2003. He said it operated successfully for two-and-a-half years.

He added that the venue would operate as a bar on Sundays to Wednesdays and as a nightclub from Thursdays to Saturdays.

There will be a range of themed nights such as a Motown evening and ’80s and ’90s nights.
