Lucy Carr, 27, of Monkmoor, Shrewsbury, was given the news that she was terminally ill with breast cancer on Monday. The cancer has also spread to her liver and bones meaning that she cannot have treatment.

But instead of feeling sorry for herself, Lucy has thrown herself into buying presents and cards for her daughter Abi so she still be a part of her life in the future.

With the help of her sister Dotti Carr, 29, and mother Lynda Parry, 49, she has even bought a wedding present as well as a bracelet complete with charms which will be given to Abi at significant times in her life.

Lucy is determined to enjoy her time and wants to spend as much of it as possible with her family, including bringing Christmas forward this year.

But her dream is to swim with dolphins and her family is appealing for anyone who might be able to help achieve this, whether through donations or by suggesting a venue not too far away.

Sister Dotti said: “She has bought Abi’s cards from the age of four to 21 years old and a wedding gift as well as charms to add to a bracelet over the years.

Lucy Carr“There is a dolphin one for her 16th birthday and a key for her 18th and for the wedding, a heart locket.”

Lucy said: “It’s in case I cannot make it. I’m going to keep fighting until I’m ready to go.”

She first discovered a lump in her breast eight months ago but claims it took several checks to get her condition diagnosed.

She is now warning other woman to be vigilant and to challenge doctors if they want further examinations.

A spokesman for Shropshire County Primary Care Trust said they could not comment on individual cases but added: “We do endeavour to provide the best quality services and care through our dedicated GPs in Shropshire.”
