TNS coach so proud

Head coach Andy Cale was left to reflect on what might have been as The New Saints again failed to make it past the first hurdle of European competition.

The Oswestry-based side gave it a real good go before going down 1-0 to Lithuanians FK Suduva in the Uefa Cup at Newtown last night, thus suffering a 2-0 aggregate defeat.

Both legs were decided by late goals, with the Saints in with a real shout of at least taking the tie into extra time before being downed by an 85th minute goal from the lively Ivans Lukjanovs.

“Suduva are a good side, it was a good challenge for us but if we could have scored then I felt we would have had a chance,” said Cale.

“However, the difference was that they took their chances in both legs and we didn’t. But we gave it a good go, I was delighted with our performance.”
