Historic county site launches online tool

EHTVA historic Shropshire site which boasts ruins of a Roman city has been used as the launch site for an online history tool.

Wroxeter Roman City was once the fourth largest metropolis in Roman Britain but was largely abandoned at the fall of the Roman Empire.

But it has once again been visited by a Roman soldier with Murray Edwards popping in to launch English Heritage’s new multi-media platform EHTV.

The scheme means history fans who want to find out how to lay siege to a medieval castle or watch a re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings can now view online TV shows.

The national heritage body is officially launching EHTV today, which provides video and audio programmes with information on great moments in history and behind-the-scenes looks at historic sites.

A series of tongue-in-cheek how-to guides allow people to find out how to do unusual things such as cook like a Roman and fire a bow and arrow. The programmes are on the English Heritage website.

Dan Wolfe, English Heritage’s marketing director, said: “Whether you’re a history buff or beginner, young child or grandparent, we want EHTV to entertain, educate and most of all, share our expertise and excitement about our heritage with a wider audience.”
