We’ll peak to perfection – Smith’s verdict

Wednesday 30th July 2008, 11:49AM BST.

Rob SmithBoss Rob Smith believes AFC Telford United are right on course to peak for the start of the Blue Square North season.

The Bucks chief has had to contend with three players undergoing surgery over the summer, as well as a broken leg for striker Matty Lewis.

But he has still been pleased by what he has seen from his team – and insists they will be raring to go when they head to Stalybridge on August 9.

Telford will host Bridgnorth in a re-arranged Shropshire Senior Cup tie tomorrow evening first, and complete their friendly schedule with the visit of League Two side Chester City on Saturday.

“It will be good to have another couple of games and I think we will be ready then,” said Smith.

“It’s not ideal that we haven’t had everybody available but I feel we’ve still got a reasonably strong side.

“It’s no secret that we want another striker (to cover for the injury to Lewis) but that’s very much on the back burner for now.

“I’ve got no-one in mind at the moment and we’ll just cross that bridge when we come to it – there’s no urgency to the situation.

“We’ve got three fit strikers and they’ve all done well so far.”

*  Fans producing one of the numbered and coded tickets distributed after Monday’s abandoned Senior Cup semi-final will get into tomorrow evening’s re-arranged tie for free.

Anyone with a valid car parking voucher from Monday will also be able to park for free.

Supporters who did not attend on Monday can still come tomorrow with entrance set at £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions. Under-16s are £1.
