Sad end for this supercar
Wednesday 30th July 2008, 11:50AM BST.
A motorist who wrecked a hired £250,000 supercar by crashing it into a tree is being hunted by police after fleeing from the accident scene in Shropshire.
The driver of the Lamborghini Murcielagos left the scene in a friend’s car after the accident at Wooton, near Alveley, on Sunday evening.
The man was one of a group of friends who had reportedly been drinking in the nearby Cider House after attending a wedding reception earlier in the day.
They told fellow pubgoers they had hired three Lamborghinis and a £137,000 Bentley for £5,000 each for the weekend. After leaving the pub, the driver apparently lost control of the powerful machine and smashed into a tree.
The mangled motor – which had been able to do 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds – rebounded into the road and blocked it, but the driver was able to free himself and was driven away by friends before police arrived.
West Mercia police spokeswoman Maria Hawkaluk appealed for anyone with any information to call 08457 444888.
“The collision happened just before 8.45pm on Sunday when a white Lamborghini convertible struck a tree,” she said.
“Police are trying to trace the driver and have appealed for any information which might assist in their inquiries.”
Landlord Brian Jervis, who was away in Cumbria at the time of accident, said he knew nothing about it until someone told him when he returned.
“The accident happened about half-a-mile away from the pub and all I know is that the driver wrapped it around a tree,” he said.
