Firefighters had to rescue one woman from the overturned car after she was trapped hanging upside down by her seatbelt.

The collision happened on the roundabout close to Asda, Wrockwardine Wood Way, Donnington, on Saturday shortly after 8pm.

Firefighter Brian Poole, of Wellington fire station, said: “There were two vehicles involved. One had flipped on to its roof. We had to cut free a lady who was upside down, being held in by her seatbelt. We removed the rear tailgate and internal seating and brought her down on to a long board.”

Firefighter Poole said crews were on the scene for about an hour.

Suzie Fothergill, West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman, said the service was alerted shortly before 8.10pm.

“We first arrived on scene about seven minutes after we were called,” she said.

“The County Air Ambulance from Cosford attended the scene and there were four other ambulances there as well.”

She said three people were injured in the collision.

“There was one female who had been trapped in a car upside down for a short while,” she said.

“In the second car there were two elderly passengers who I believe had minor injuries.

“They were taken to Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital.”
