Knight’s ready to shine for Tigers

Tuesday 22nd July 2008, 11:55AM BST.

Eurologix Telford Tigers’ boss Claude Dumas is celebrating the signing of James Knight from Hull Stingrays, where the 22-year-old bagged 18 Elite league points last season.

Despite his Canadian accent, Knight is registered as a Brit. He was born in Kent, but moved to Canada when he was 10.

He played for Moose Jaw Warriors, Saskatchewan, in the Western Hockey League in two of that team’s strongest seasons before heading back to England to join Hull in 2006.

Dumas said: “James was one of the key players we were looking to sign this year. He left Britain when he was very young and learned his hockey in Canada in the best junior leagues.

“He has played the last couple of years in Hull where he was on the third line. He did well there and this time he wants to play more. He will certainly get more ice time here.”

Speaking from Winnipeg, Knight confirmed: “I spoke to Claude several times and he told me about the team he is building in Telford.

“We thought I could fit in well with the squad and once we got talking it didn’t take long to complete the contracts and set it all up.”

What a great signing Knight is!

It’s great that the teams’ recent sponsorship deal with Eurologix has mean’t we can now attract players of this calibre, and it’s great the coach is building a team to really compete.

All we need now are for a few more sponsors to come on board and we’ll be able to finance a squad that can push the leagues’ real ‘big spenders’ for league title honours – so come on local businesses, get on board!
