Broken leg rider airlifted after fall

A 21-year-old rider was airlifted to hospital with a broken leg after falling at a motocross event in south Shropshire.
Miles Bailey, a builder from Hinstock, was competing at an event in Redwood Lane, Twitchen, near Craven Arms, yesterday. A member of Newport Motocross Club, he landed awkwardly after going over a jump.
A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Witnesses said that he took the full force in his leg. The rider had a badly broken and dislocated leg.
“Initial care was provided by a first aider. The man was immobilised then airlifted to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.”
A rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and the County Air Ambulance from Cosford were all sent to the scene.
Roy Pugh, chairman of the Newport Motocross Club, said: “He had an operation last night and he is back on the ward. It is quite a severe injury but he is in safe hands.”
