Kempson seals his Wrexham deal
Thursday 17th July 2008, 1:55PM BST.
Defender Darran Kempson today brought the curtain down on a disappointing year at Shrewsbury Town by sealing a switch to Wrexham.Kempson, 23, was at the Racecourse ground this morning to complete the deal, and links up with a squad looking to return to the Football League at the first attempt.
The 6ft 2ins centre-back only signed for Town from Crewe last summer, but failed to hold down a regular first team place.
His fortunes did not improve when new manager Paul Simpson took over from Gary Peters – and he was told he would be allowed to leave after being left out of the travelling party for the club’s pre-season training camp in Spain.
The highlight of his Shrewsbury career came last August when he scored the winning goal in the Carling Cup clash with Colchester. It was the first goal to be scored in a competitive game at the new stadium.
Kempson – who has also had loan spells with Morecambe, Bury and Accrington Stanley – will link up with another former Town player, Sam Aiston, at the Blue Square Premier club.
