Council hopeful over mill revamp
Thursday 17th July 2008, 6:59PM BST.
Plans and funding for the multi-million pound redevelopment of Shrewsbury’s historic flax mill could be in place by March.
Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council wants to have as much in place as possible for the redevelopment of the 18th century building before Shropshire’s unitary authority is in place in May.
But council chiefs today said it would be some years before the scheme was completed.
Lawyers representing the borough council and English Heritage are meeting tomorrow to discuss the development agreement between SABC and developers Urban Splash.
It is hoped this will be signed by the end of September paving the way for plans to be drawn up and a scheme to be submitted for the borough council’s planning department to consider.
Ian Kilby, planning services manager at SABC, said: “We are very keen to have the scheme signed up before Shrewsbury and Atcham ceases in March.”

How about a multi storey car park? Would save a few bob on finishing, and solve the so-called ‘congestion problem’ in one fell swoop..
