Park fun ends in fire crew rescue

Wednesday 16th July 2008, 11:04AM BST.

Firefighters had to cut free a 10-year-old girl after she became trapped in a toddler’s swing.

A crew from Wellington was called to a playground in Leegate Avenue, Leegomery, Telford, yesterday at 4.20pm.

A Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “The girl had to be removed from a swing that was too small for her using small cutting devices. She is now out safe and well.”

Sub-officer Kevin Maddox, from Wellington fire station, said he had attended similar incidents in the past.

“Usually we cut them free from the swing by unscrewing the bottom of the seat,” he said.

The mishap came 24 hours after a 16-year-old girl had to be freed by firefighters after becoming trapped up to her waist in thick mud in Dawley.

Antonia Weaver, of Johnston Road, Dawley, was only rescued from the mud near Hinkshay Pools on Monday night after she alerted fishermen.
