Deal as trader faces loss of shop

One of three Shrewsbury shopkeepers set to have their shops bulldozed to make way for a £5 million regeneration scheme has been handed a lifeline.
Ian Davies, who owns a hairdressing salon in Moston Road, Sundorne, has been told he must leave his shop by the end of next month. Council leaders have been helping him search for new premises and a deal has now been agreed for a site.
There are also hopes convenience store owner Sunil Patel and chip shop operator Sidhu Singh could also be lined up with new properties.
Councillor Malcolm Price, portfolio holder for housing at Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council, said it was hoped Mr Davies could move into a unit in Whitchurch Road shortly.
He added he had also attempted to find a shop in the same row of units for Mr Sidhu, but size constraints had posed a problem. However, he and Severnside Housing, which is behind the regeneration scheme, were looking at other units.
Councillor Price said he was hopeful Mr Patel would agree to a new shop proposed as part of the development in Moston Road.
