Trader’s despair over raid

Friday 11th July 2008, 11:50AM BST.

Trader Sue Eddies feels it is not worth running a shop in Whitchurch anymore after the latest attempt to break in to her business. The manager of Panther Computer Services, Watergate Arcade, says she has become a prisoner in her own shop.

Her business was targeted again this week, and while no-one managed to get into the shop, more than £1,500 damage was caused. It is the third time the business has been targeted since opening eight years ago.

Mrs Eddies said: “We’ve got bars all through the shop, we’ve got CCTV cameras, what more can we do? It makes you feel like you’re imprisoned in the shop.

“It’s not worth trading in Whitchurch anymore.”

She pointed the finger at supermarket giant Tesco for not fixing three nearby streetlights belonging to them, which has left her shop in complete darkness.

A Tesco spokesman said: “We can confirm the light outside the Whitchurch store is being repaired today. We apologise for the delay.”

West Mercia Police spokeswoman Maria Hawkaluk today appealed for witnesses.
