Sue Pinches’s daughter died in an accident with a bus exactly one year before a similar crash claimed the life of a 25-year-old man.

Vicki Pinches, of Ratlinghope, died on June 30 last year after she was involved in a collision with a bus at Longden Common near Shrewsbury.

On June 28, car driver Daniel Richards was killed in collision with a bus in Pulley Lane, Bayston Hill.

Today Mrs Pinches spoke of her shock at seeing the article about his death in the Shropshire Star on the anniversary of her 22-year-old daughter’s death.

She said: “We have not even had any messages of sympathy from Arriva.

“Arriva has not contacted us but only our insurance company to say they are claiming for the bus.

“The inquest came out that it was an accidental death. Anybody would have panicked so she put her brakes on and went straight into the bus and did not have a chance.

“I feel for the other family as well. I do not the know the circumstance of their accident.”

The inquest heard that although the road was narrow, vehicles could have passed slowly with care.

It also heard the wetness of the road, the width of the bus and the relative inexperience of Miss Pinches were all contributory factors.

But Mrs Pinches said she had concerns about the size of buses using Longden Common. She added: “The size of the buses is our concern, they do not need to use this size especially when they know there has been a fatal accident.”

Brian Higgs, who lives next to where the accident happened, said: “The buses are too wide for the road. Six months before Vicki’s accident, a council lorry and a bus met outside my drive and the council lorry took evasive action because there was not enough room and demolished the drive wall.”

Keith Myatt, spokesman for Arriva Midlands, said: “Arriva Midlands is unable to make any further statement regarding this matter at this stage while our insurance companies are still working on the file.”
