Young gun Barnard in county call
Monday 7th July 2008, 11:49AM BST.
Shrewsbury seamer Michael Barnard has been called up for his full Shropshire debut – when the weather allows.
Barnard, son of former Shropshire stalwart Andy, was called into the team to face Wiltshire at Bridgnorth which was due to start yesterday.
The 18-year-old seamer has had a successful summer for Shrewsbury School and has also taken a cluster of wickets in a handful of Birmingham League appearances for Shrewsbury.
He was joined in the team by Shifnal paceman Adam Shimmons, with spinner Andy Gray a late withdrawal due to personal reasons and Wellington batsman Simon Harding named as 12th man.
But those changes proved academic yesterday with play abandoned without a ball being bowled, the decision eventually reached shortly before 2pm.
And there was a further delay at Cricket Meadow this morning – with an inspection at the scheduled start time of 11am to determine when play could commence.
