Top projects for architect

Simon Woodroffe, creator of Yo! SushiA Shropshire firm, which is going from strength to strength, is designing restaurants in Russia, Dubai and the USA for international chain Yo! Sushi.

DGA Ltd has moved to prestigious new premises on Shrewsbury Business Park as it continues to grow.

The firm, which was involved in designing Shrewsbury Town’s new stadium, helps provide much of the design work for the Yo! Sushi chain – with the foreign restaurants the latest in a line of projects it has been working on.

Architects have started work on restaurants for the firm in Russia and Dubai and say that restaurants in USA are in the pipeline.

The firm’s new contemporary glass-and-brick building on the business park was designed in-house, with bosses saying it will accommodate an anticipated growth of up to double the firm’s current size within the next 18 months.

Architect Ewan Dryburgh and co-directors Mark Cashmore and Heather Noble were involved in the design of Shrewsbury Town’s new football stadium, while DGA is also the preferred architects for several heavyweight developers, including those behind B&Q in Featherbed Lane.

Consultants The Business Company has been asked to devised a business strategy to plan and manage the growth of the firm.

Ellen Morley, principal of The Business Company, said: “DGA is a relatively small Shrewsbury business that has successfully competed with big architectural practices in London.

“Like most other successful businesses of this size, DGA is managed by people whose professional expertise lies in the core activity of the business – and it is their genius which has gained the company the reputation that has brought an increase in the volume of work, sufficient to necessitate a move of premises.”

“When it comes to handling the growth and planning the next stage of development, DGA had the wisdom to recognise it needed a different kind of expertise on a short-term basis – and that is where we came in.

“Growing from one to 20 staff is an easy step to take but beyond that most businesses need specialist help with financial and business elements, often including a complete re-branding exercise to raise their profile and take the business to a different level – as was the case with DGA.”
