Naylor the new target for Telford
Saturday 5th July 2008, 11:49AM BST.
Experienced defender Martin Naylor looks set to return to the New Bucks Head as AFC Telford United’s fifth summer signing.
The 30-year-old right-sided player, released by The New Saints at the end of last season, joined up with the Telford squad for training this morning.
Should a deal be concluded over the weekend, it would mark a return to the ground he called home in the mid-1990s before following then boss Jake King to Shrewsbury Town.
But it is with the multiple Welsh Premier League champions that he has spent the bulk of his career – gaining vast experience which has included playing in the Champions League and UEFA Cup.
“He’s got an offer of a trial at Wrexham and there’s other clubs in our league who want him, but he wants to come to Telford,” said boss Rob Smith.
“He’s a player I’ve always liked and we had a bit of contact with him earlier in the summer. We thought we had enough in our squad then, but injuries have forced our hand and he would be a good addition if we can agree terms.”
