Hot – but storms on the way
Tuesday 1st July 2008, 11:50AM BST.
People across Shropshire and Mid Wales were basking in sunshine today as the weather gave us a glimpse of summer. The region saw temperatures of 24C (75F) to 26C (79F).
However, London was the hottest place to be with temperatures reaching 28C (82F).

Forecaster Rachel Vince said the best of the sunshine was expected across central and south-eastern parts of the UK but that outbreaks of rain were expected across Northern Ireland, western Scotland, west Wales and south-west England, with those areas lucky to get to 20C (68F).
In Shropshire, sun seekers flocked to parks and other beauty spots to enjoy the day, but a high UV index of six put people at a risk of burning if they failed to protect their skin.
Police spokesman Richard Ewels warned residents not to be lulled into a false sense of security and to make sure their homes were secure.
He said: “There is the temptation in hot weather like this to throw open windows and head out into the garden leaving doors unlocked.
“As a basic crime prevention measure you should also make sure doors and windows are secured, even if you are only in the garden.”
Thunder storms are expected to sweep the county later tonight as wet and cold weather moves in.
Forecaster Paul Mott said: “Tomorrow will be quite a bit cooler, with showers and cloud across most of the UK and temperatures down to 21C (70F) or 22C (72F),” he said.
“It looks like it will be quite changeable over the following few days.”
