Crash risk fear over care village bid
Tuesday 1st July 2008, 6:59PM BST.
Building a “mammoth” 250-bed care village in Shropshire could see more fatal accidents on a road where a 25-year-old man was killed just three days ago, a councillor claimed.
Daniel Richards died in an accident on Saturday afternoon after his car was in collision with a bus in Pulley Lane, near Bayston Hill.
The area is earmarked for a care village which would include a shop, a hydrotherapy suite and main access on to Pulley Lane.
But residents and councillors in Bayston Hill have previously said the development would result in accidents on the 60mph road.
Bayston Hill Parish Council last night discussed the development following the accident on Saturday, after which the bus driver and six passengers were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for treatment.
Councillor Keith Keel said: “We have to take into account the unfortunate death on that road last week, with the traffic that will be there, there will be more.”
Councillor Jason Manley added: “They are going to build this mammoth thing that is going to make the approach to our village more dangerous and I think they are going to take no notice of us.”
Outline planning permission is being sought from Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council by developers Maximus.

If the development goes ahead why not include traffic calming measures as part of the planning application ? Then it would enhance the road from a safety point of view. More open mindedness is required.

If they reduced the speed limit on Pulley Lane to 30 mph and enforced it with speed cameras there wouldn’t be a problem with an access onto it. The number of “close shaves” I and friends have had on that road, meeting people driving too fast, coming round the corner in the middle of the road, overtaking, etc. it is a miracle this is the first person to be killed.

A different stretch of road, but I was driving along a winding country lane last night when whizzing round a tight bend straight at me in the middle of the road came . . . a ‘safety camera team’ van. Brakes hastily applied all round.
Nearly wasn’t very ‘safe’ at all . . thanks guys!
