Top jazz festival gig for school
Monday 30th June 2008, 6:59PM BST.
A group of talented Shropshire musicians will rub shoulders with the likes of Mark Ronson, Lenny Kravitz and Katie Melua at one of the world’s biggest music festivals this week.
Pupils from Wem’s Thomas Adams School will take part in the 42nd Montreux Jazz Festival, in Switzerland, which starts on Friday.
The Thomas Adams big band, Adjazz, is the only school band invited to perform.
They will be following in the footsteps of legends such as Sting, Eric Clapton and Deep Purple, sharing the bill with the likes of Gnarls Barkley, Sheryl Crow, Alicia Keys and Travis.
Thomas Adams head of music Malcolm Brown said: “It’s a real coup for a small school in the middle of nowhere, and a once in a lifetime opportunity for everyone.”
