Eastwood switch still alive – Wolves

freddy.jpgWolves are still hopeful Freddy Eastwood’s £1m-plus move to Coventry isn’t dead – despite claims that the Sky Blues have pulled the plug. The former Southend striker is currently refusing to accept a settlement on his Wolves contract after agreeing a four-year deal which matches his Molineux wages.

The clubs had already agreed the fee which would eventually lead to Wolves recouping the full amount they paid Southend a year ago.

Now Coventry are saying the deal is dead over Eastwood’s refusal to accept a compromise over the money owed.

And the Ricoh Arena club are now in talks with former Birmingham striker Clinton Morrison, who is a free agent after his release from Crystal Palace, and Southampton’s Grzegorz Rasiak, a former Wolves target of Glenn Hoddle.

Eastwood was expected to report back today for the start of pre-season training with the rest of the players at Compton.

Wolves believe the transfer-listed striker should accept the deal being offered by Coventry as he will be earning the same money – and more if he plays, rather than continue to kick his heels at Molineux where he’s not part of McCarthy’s plans.

Eastwood, meanwhile, claims he badgered boss Mick McCarthy to sign his former Southend team-mate Mark Gower, who has just joined Championship new-boys Swansea.

He said: “Mark Gower’s got great ability on the ball and I really enjoyed playing with him because he created so much for me.

“He’s a brilliant buy, I’ve no doubt about that. Since I’ve been at Wolves, I’ve been telling Mick McCarthy to have a look at him because I think he’s probably the best player Southend have got.”

Reports say Wolves have increased their bid to £2m for Hearts defender Christophe Berra and that he will sign this week.

But Wolves say this is untrue, with their last bid still believed to be £1.5m.
