McFadden urged to stick with McLeish
Monday 23rd June 2008, 6:12AM BST.
Scotland assistant boss Terry Butcher has urged James McFadden to stay at Birmingham and forget all about a possible move to Celtic.
McFadden’s agent has claimed the striker wants to leave Birmingham following their relegation from the Barclays Premier League, and there has been interest from Parkhead.
The Scotland frontman moved to St Andrew’s from Everton in January and scored four goals in 12 appearances but could not save Alex McLeish’s team from the drop to the Coca-Cola Championship.
Butcher believes McFadden should wait until making a move to one of the Old Firm clubs.
“Give it time and that move will maybe happen for him one day,” Butcher said. “I suspect it probably will. I just don’t think that time is right now.”
Butcher helped to nurture McFadden’s talent during his spell as Motherwell manager, and believes the 25-year-old, who has three years remaining on his Birmingham contract, would see his popularity dip if he returned to Glasgow.
“I just think the way he goes about his business as a Birmingham City player helps unite all the Scotland fans,” Butcher said.

Keep your nose out of it Butcher ya bam!
What has it got to do with you you dismal failure. How dare you advise any player on what to do with their future when you can’t even properly handle the Oz league!
As for him losing popularity if he moves to Glasgow (to Celtic-no chance of him signing for Rangers) well a certain Kenny Miller has been there done that on 3 occasions and is still a Tartan Bammy hero. The question is why would he lose popularity?
The whole is irrelevant anyway as there is no way he is going to Celtic at the price mentioned.
