Dragons charge to top

bowls.jpgDefending champions St Georges stormed to the top of the Furrows Shropshire Premier Bowls League for the first time this season with a 14-0 demolition of Archibald Worthington.

The Dragons won the aggregate by 127 with Gary Cooper leading the way on the Church Road green with a 21-1 win to take the coppers.

Chester Road moved into second place with an 11-3 home win over previous leaders Wem USC – only their third defeat of the season.

Castlefields just edged home against Sir John Bayley – but both sides had six winners and Fields won the aggregate by just two with the help of Keith Wall’s 21-7 card.

Both Spencer Clarke and Steve Broome had 21-13 wins for the improving Bayley Boys.

Ford were the only away winners on the night at Meole Brace – the two teams had six winners each but Ford edged the aggregate by four.

Ifton had a comfortable 12-2 victory over basement boys Donnington Wood with Mel Evans leading the way 21-3.

Bylet beat Wrockwardine Wood despite only having five winners in Bridgnorth with the score finishing 7-7.

Newport made their home advantage count to beat Childs Ercall 9-5 with Chris Grocott taking the coppers.
