Pearson new Foxes boss

Friday 20th June 2008, 11:49AM BST.

Leicester have named former Shrewsbury Town defender Nigel Pearson as their new manager.

The ex-Southampton boss succeeds Ian Holloway, who left the club by mutual consent after the club’s relegation to Coca-Cola League One last season.

Pearson, 44, becomes the Foxes’ sixth manager under chairman Milan Mandaric in 16 months.

The club had been keen to speak to MK Dons boss Paul Ince but the former England midfielder is heavily linked with Blackburn.

Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington, John Gregory, Simon Grayson and Paul Lambert were also thought to be in contention.

Pearson spared Southampton from relegation, a feat which – despite relegating Leicester to the third tier for the first time in their history – could not save his job.

Best of luck to Big Nige. Hope he gets it right quickly as Mandaric doesn’t show much patience – 6 managers in 16 months !!
    Up the Town !
