Gwilt’s glory going on
Tuesday 17th June 2008, 11:49AM BST.
Mid Wales badminton starlet Oliver Gwilt has added two more titles to his growing collection.
The Welshpool High School student came home from the Globus top 3,000 tournament in Germany with the under-15 singles title – and he also won gold in the doubles event with partner Daniel Font.
The 14-year-old’s success was particularly impressive as he has missed a lot of training in recent weeks due to a broken collar bone.
“The boys have an insatiable love of badminton, both training and competing,” said Wales performance co-ordinator Eddie O’Neill.
“Many players have finished for the season, but for them, the challenges just go on.”
Oliver is currently Welsh No 1 and third in GB. Later this year he’s off to Singapore to train with Olympian Richard Vaughan.
