Odd sight in the sky
Monday 16th June 2008, 11:55AM BST.
Mystery surrounds two bright orange lights that were spotted in the night sky over Telford.
Terry Carr says he was travelling to the White Horse pub in Ironbridge on Saturday at about 10.20pm when he saw the lights.
Mr Carr said: “It was a really odd experience. What are they?”
Shropshire astronomer Pete Shah said Mr Carr could have been witnessing trick UFO balloons, the planet Jupiter which is currently low in the horizon, or Archturus, one of the brightest stars in the night sky which appears bright orange or red.

At about 11pm on Saturday night, my husband and I saw at first 2 orange fan shaped flames slowly travelling in the night sky in a south easterly direction. Soon to be followed by at least another 10. All travelling in the same direction.
We then looked through binoculars to see what we can only describe as flying chinese lanterns . Orange fan shaped flame beneath a structure, but not an air baloon. No baskets and silent.
we do not believe the star theory.

I saw them too, From Shifnal on Saturday night at around 11-00 PM.
Travelling roughly south, south-east almost overhead at the zenith, two smaller, dim lights, apparently in formation, followed by a larger, brighter one shorly afterwards.
Slow with no sound.
Could not see any detail through binoculars but definately not stellar or planetary nor any kind of aircraft (no strobe lights).
Too slow and too low to have been satellites.
Much too early in the evening to be Jupiter, it’s nowhere near this elevation at 11-00 PM.
A hoax I think but very effective.

I also saw these from my garden in Doseley – they appeared more like slow lighting but orange instead of white, found them quite disturbing and went indoors feeling a bit scared.

Sunday morning, one of the lights seemed to land in my back garden. My wife approached the light, waited for a while, and suddenly a little man popped out with little blue wellies. He mumbled a bit, so my wife just went back inside and had a coffee.
