Shrewsbury ease into last eight

Shrewsbury are the first side through to the quarter-finals of the Chronicle Twenty20 Knockout – even before the last 16 matches have been played.
The London Road men have been handed a bye after Welshpool withdrew from tonight’s first round tie.
But there is still plenty of intriguing action in the offing this evening.
The pick of the ties comes at Orleton Park where an all Birmingham-League clash sees Wellington host Newport.
But Wellington professional Rajat Bhatia will miss out on making his debut against his former club.
The all rounder isn’t due to make his belated arrival in England from Indian Premier League duty until tomorrow afternoon, ready for the weekend Birmingham League game.
Elsewhere, holders Shifnal will be favourites to progress when they entertain Quatt, while St Georges will do battle with Shelton at Church Road for the right to meet Shrewsbury in the last eight.
There is also a clash between last season’s Shropshire Premier League champions and this season’s early leaders when Oswestry make the trip to Reman Services.
Tonight’s other ties, which all get underway at 6.15pm, are: Wem v Bomere Heath, Bridgnorth v Ludlow, Albrighton v Whitchurch.

Easy win for Newport over Welington last night, not sure what’s happening at Welly but the were never in it. Someone joked that they don’t need their “1″ on the scoreboard any longer.!
Seriously though it’s disappointing to see them strugling so much, i’m sure Rajats’ arrival today will perk them up.
If he doesn’t come off then they could be in real trouble.
Seems to be a season of struggles so far for our Club sides.

That’s the attitude Shropshire Lad!! While the going is good and the Shropshire teams manage to win their leagues then the world (or at least the Midlands)is your oyster. As soon as normal service is resumed and Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Staffordshire clubs reassert their natural superiority over you then you seek to claim that it was all an experiment that hasn’t succeeded and try to creep back into your insular little league.

clubs these days have to pay large sums of money to win the premier league. i hear shifnal are spending 18k on their wage bill this year and other sides spend even more than that!
