Power cut hits 1,400 homes
Thursday 12th June 2008, 11:50AM BST.
People in more than 1,400 properties in Shropshire were left without power when they woke today. A total of 1,441 homes in Shifnal lost the electricity supply shortly after 6.20am.Idsall School in Shifnal was one of those affected.
Staff advised children to take a contact number for a parent or guardian to school with them in case they had to be sent home, after staff were told the power would be back on about 9am. But power was restored at the school at 7.15am.
Just ten properties were then left without power but everyone had their power restored by 7.56am.
Roger Skelhorn, deputy headteacher at Idsall School, said: “We are up and running. We asked pupils to bring contact numbers with them as a safeguard because our initial information was that the power would be back on at 9am. The power came back on at 7.15am.”
Andrew Barrow, spokesman for Central Networks, said: “We experienced a fault on the high voltage underground network. We apologise to those who were inconvenienced. We are now investigating the cause of the fault.”
